Gokyo Lake Trek is the another most popular trekking trails in the Everest region. It is popular in the sense that you will have a chance to tour around the mountain valley and the Lake called Gokyo Lake, located 4,750 m height, means you will explore the wide range of scenario of majestic Himalayas and build a close relationship with nature. This route also shares the great Himalayan views including Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Amadablam, Mt. Thamserku among others. Besides, magnificent views of the Himalayas, you also can enjoy with a different blend of the cultures and traditions of Sherpa indigenous community living in the high land. Gokyo valley and Gokyo Lake Trek lie in the east of the Everest base camp. The trekking to this area offers an excellent view of mountains lying on the Everest Himalayan range.
Gokyo Lake Trek is perhaps the most amazing trekking route because the trail follows closest to the Everest base camp. Gokyo valley trekking is an alternative route to traditional trails to the Everest base camp. Gokyo Ri is one of the excellent viewpoints in Everest region. The Gokyo Lake Trek starts from a gateway to Lukla, then the trails follow along with the bank of Dudh Koshi River. After having two night stay for acclimatization at Namche, the beautiful Sherpa village, it reaches to Gokyo lake and have the views of the Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Cho-Oyu, Mt. After breakfast last minutes shopping for Everest Base Camp Trek and Packing. After lunch at 2PM drive from Kathmandu Hotel to Manthali Airport (Ramechhap), it takes 4 hours of scenic journey through the hilly terrain, country side of life styel. The jounrey passing through southeast of Araniko and BP highway offers beautiful views.
Flight from Manthali Airport to Lukla Airport (2840m/9,315ft) about 15 minutes flight and trek to Phakding (2610m/8,560ft) 3 hours OR Monjo (2,835m/9,299ft) 5 hours. From today Everest Base Camp Trek starts by foot You will catch a glimpse of some great mountains such as Nupla (5,885m/19,302ft) above Kongde Ridge, Kusum Kang (6367m appears on the right a little later. All along you will be following the northern (left) bank of the Dudh Kosi River. It is important to take these first few days slowly to enable your body to acclimatize and to enjoy the passing scenery and culture.
Trek from Phakding or Monjo to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,283ft) 6/4 hours. Namche Bazaar is one of the biggest market towns in Everest region as Acclimatization place of trekking and expedition. Today begins on the level ground, relative to the environment in which you are! You will cross the river on a high suspension bridge and begin to climb up to Monjo (2,835m) and onto the gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park Entrance in place to protect and preserve this beautiful environment. There is a good rest stop on the way up to where you will see people gathered, admiring the first real chance to see Everest in the distance. On the way up today, you will be rewarded with views of Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, Konde-Ri and Tawache Peak than we reach Namche Bazaar.
The trek from Namche Bazaar to Khumjung Village is a beautiful journey in the Everest region, offering stunning views and cultural experiences of Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture and learn about the various plant and animal life of the Everest region. Namche Bazaar is the main center of the Everest (Khumbu) region. The trail enjoy panoramic views of peaks like Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Mount Everest in the distance and offering a chance to take in a bird's-eye view of Namche Bazaar. The walking through to Everest View Hotel, you'll pass the Syangboche Airstrip, one of the highest airstrips in the world. The Everest view Hotel offering a fantastic iconic hotel is perched at 3,880M, and is famous for its stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The trail leading to known as the "Green Village" due to the green roofs of its houses Khumjung Village.
The trek from Khumjung Village to Dole is a fascinating part of the journey towards Gokyo Lake. The trail offering stunning landscapes, rich flora, and views of majestic Himalayan peaks. Walking through steep ascent to Mong La Danda, is a small ridge-top settlement and descenting through rhododendron and pine forests to Phortse Thenga to steady uphill climb to Dole. The trail passes through forests and begins to open up with fewer trees as you gain altitude.
Trek from Dole to Machhermo is a relatively shorter yet rewarding segment in the Gokyo Lake Trekking. It is part of the journey toward gradual ascent offering spectacular view of Mount. Cho Oyu (8,188 m / 26,864 ft), the sixth-highest mountain in the world, Thamserku and Kangtega and Himalayan landscape. The trek from Machhermo to Gokyo Lake is one of the most stunning sections of the Gokyo Valley trek. It offers breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks, pristine glacial lakes, and a steadily rising trail leading to the iconic Gokyo village. The walking keep your eye out for Himalayan wildlife, such as yaks, snow pigeons, and Himalayan tahr if you are lucky. The trek continues passing though first lake (Longpongo), Second Lake (Taujung Tso) and Third Lake (Dudh Pokhari), where is called Gokyo Lake your Destination.
The hike to Gokyo Ri is a highlight of the Gokyo Valley trek, offering one of the most spectacular panoramic views in the Everest region. The climb is challenging but incredibly rewarding, especially at sunrise when the surrounding peaks are bathed in golden light. The walking to Gokyo Ri wear layers to stay warm, as temperatures are frigid in the early morning. The trail climbs steeply from the lake, zigzagging up a rocky and rugged slope. from the top, you’ll be rewarded with a 360-degree view of some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mount Everest (8,849M / 29,032ft), Lhotse (8,516M / 27,940ft), Makalu (8,485M / 27,838ft), Cho Oyu (8,188M / 26,864 ft) and mores. The walking down very carefully, as the steep trail can be slippery, especially if icy and Rest in Guest House.
The trek from Gokyo Lake to Phortse Thanga takes you on a scenic descent back through the Gokyo Valley. This segment is a mix of downhill and some gentle climbs, with a significant altitude drop, making it easier on the lungs but potentially challenging for the knees. The route offers beautiful views of the Ngozumpa Glacier, alpine meadows, and lush rhododendron forests as you move to lower elevations.
Trek from Phortse Tanga to Monjo taking you an hour climb to Mong La Danda, walk down to Sanasa then trail follow to Namche Bazaar which is very busy trail to Everest Base Camp. It allows you to descend through beautiful alpine forests, cross suspension bridges, and enjoy the vibrant culture of the Khumbu Valley. The trail includes steep sections and descends through pine and rhododendron forests, crossing several high suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and pass by small Sherpa settlements such as Jorsalle and Monjo where is it trekkers are exit of Sagarmath National Park.
The trek from Monjo to Lukla Airport (2,840m) 5 hours, marks the final leg of the Everest region of Gkoyo Ri Trek. It’s mostly a descent through picturesque villages, suspension bridges, and forested trails, though there are some challenging uphill sections. The final stretch involves a gradual ascent to Lukla, passing through villages and celebration of appreciation and create lasting memories with Guide and Potters.
The flight from Lukla to Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) is a common alternative to the traditional Lukla-to-Kathmandu route, especially during peak trekking seasons (spring and autumn). Airlines often reroute flights to Manthali due to congestion at Kathmandu's Tribhuvan International Airport. The drive from Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) to Kathmandu is a scenic road journey that typically takes 4 hours, depending on traffic conditions and enjoy the Hot Shower after long your Everest Base Camp, Cho-La Pass and Gokyo Ri trekking.
