Hindu Pilgrimage Tour in Nepal

Muktinath Temple, situated 25km north of Jomsom at an altitude of (3,710m/12,169ft) at the foot of the Thorong La mountain pass (5,416m/17,769 ft) in Mustang district, is one of the pilgrimage destinations for both Hindu and Buddhist followers. Muktinath literally means “Lord of Salvation” and every year thousands of devotees went for worship in a hope to receive salvation from the cycle of birth and rebirth. It is a gateway to Mustang from Manang infamous Annapurna circuit Trek route. The holy shrine at Muktinath Temple is in a grove of trees and includes a Buddhist Gompa and a pagoda-shaped temple dedicated to the Lord Vishnu.

Many Shaligrams (Ammonite) found here are considered by Hindu as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu and worship them. According to Hindu Myth lord Vishnu turned into Shaligram because of Brinda’s Curse. On the wall of temple 108 waterspouts are embedded. The Jwala Mai temple nearby has a spring and an eternal flame fed by natural gas. It is believed that one should visit Muktinath temple after completing a pilgrimage to four special religious sites in India.
